Osaka Float Parade !

While at Tenjinbashi-Suji , a 2.6 km shopping street in Uemeda district, we were suddenly surprised by the sound of loud chanting, scattered shouts, cymbals and drumbeats. All the exciting sounds of a Float Procession! It was very colourful and everybody enjoyed themselves, onlookers and participants. In that very narrow shopping backlane street.

The lead man carried a lantern on a long pole. Two of them, rather, taking turns.

This group are big boys. And they had the job of carrying a Float, not pulling one that's on wheels. When they reached an intersection of the shopping street with an access road across, they rocked the Float left and right. Click on any photo and see the strain in their faces.

The last photo above shows the Float at rest.

Hi. I now see what you meant about lots of people in the later photos.
Japan seems to be a fascinated place. Oxford Street in central London, Europes busiest shopping street, must be about that length (2.6km).
