Day 4 - Tsukiji Fish Market

The room we had at Shinjuku Washington Hotel that we checked into last night was not too bad. There was lots of space for our two luggage bags on the floor, but it lacked space for the tv which took up much of the desk-cum-dressing table. The bathroom was simple and very satisfactory.

After brekky, we took the train to the Tsukiji fish market. We didn't get inside as it was already past the high activity period. We were more interested in the area around the market.

There were many blocks of little shops consisting mostly of eateries and fishmonger shops. It seemed like everyone was there for fresh seafood meals. Just look at theose queues (above).

Some of the shops were tiny and had a shopfront counter and stools at which you eat (above, left). These shops and those without seating space had cartons and boxes (above right) for customers to use as tables (below).

Kerbside standing room only (above), but no worries, just adjust necklace or collar or put on a bib and start slurping.

Queues at the very popular shops can be very long, like this one (below) snaking around the street corner.

The photo above was taken inside a sort of food centre where there were many little shops. It was too crowded and hot and humid for us to have a bowl or even take more pics.

Just as at home in Singapore, much of the food preparation and washing were carried out outside the shops (above right and below).
