Day 2/8 - Salamanca Market, Hobart

First day out from Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, had to be the Salamanca Market which is open only on Saturdays. You will regret it very much if you miss it, so make sure you include a Saturday in Hobart in your itinerary.

A very wide road, Salamanca Place, is closed off to traffic and stalls are erected left, right and centre. It'll take a good few hours going down one lane between stalls and back the other. Definitely one of the most enjoyable marketplaces that I've visited.

Many of the shops ie the permanent ones, not the Saturday stalls, on this street are also open. One good-sized shop sells fresh veggie and fruit for which Tassie is well-known for.

It was a cold and windy day and we had many cups of coffee from different stalls. One, which was actually a lunch van, run by Chinese or Vietnamese, had the lowest prices.

There was a a good South American group "Arauco Libre" (freedom to Araucania) busking. Bought one of their CD's entitled "Salamanca". Like all other bands, they took a good long hour setting up.
