Locals burning offerings add to the air polution! You can't escape the smell of burning jossticks and spiritual paper money in the forecourt. Burning is prohibited in the temple. Be prepared to be elbowed by worshippers inside, especially the old women. And as in any other place in China, there is no proper directional flow of people; go with the flow of those in front of you and hope for the best.
Those are (above left) drainage holes down which surface water goes into the underground drains.
In the photo (extreme right above), some domestic tourists are eating towkuah (soy bean) slabs on sticks; a very popular local snack. They tasted horrible. Another horrible tasting popular local snack was the purple-coloured corn on cob which tasted like paper!
