The Meiji Shrine was in a park full of old tall trees. Once past the tori (shrine gate), it was wonderfully cool in the shade of the trees and we walked about half a kilometre of a wide (about 20 m) loose gravel road to the shrine. It wasn't a spectacular structure though a handsome one, but it was a very popular tourist attraction. On certain days there were flea market stalls in this park; but we weren't so lucky. There was a wedding photo shoot however and I snapped one for our album.
As in all the shrines we visited, there were the usual display of sake containers, the wash-before-you-continue water well, and the write a wish plaques. All the buildings were located in a huge loose gravel-covered compound.
