Hie-jinga Shrine

We had to visit this shrine - the Hie Jinja Shrine - as I had read in a tourist book that the bright red tori was a sight to behold. So took the appropriate train and walked a bit and here are the shots. The main entrance is indicated by a huge grey-coloured concrete tori which made me wonder if we were at the correct site.

The hillside stairs took us round the hill and a little further up to a landing where a staircase leads to the hilltop where the shrine sits.

The staircase is straddled by many many tori that are cute and short, about 2 -3 metres tall, installed one behind another, forming what seemed like a red tunnel over the stairs. Here are two shots looking up and one looking down.

The tori 'tunnel' ended and the stairs continued upwards, flanked by banners on stakes, until the top of the stairs where there is a regular huge red tori.

Other than the red tori, there wasnt much to this attraction.
