Furano factories - jam, cheese, ice cream, pizza

These 2 stops are not worth stopping at. The jam garden/factory is one stop while the ice cream, cheese and pizza make up the other. If you must stop, do so only at the jam joint and give the other a wide miss.

The jam shop has lots of varieties of jam for tasting and sale in various size bottles. They taste very good and fragrant. And of course, they come in the most beautiful packaging that only the Japanese can do without par.

There was a small section where kids can try and make jam; from adding and mixing the ingredients , stirring over small fire and water bath, and filling into bottles. The proper factory was closed to view, but the museum wasopen (it was dry and dull; skip it).

Halfway along the 115 km drive to last destination for the day, Sapporo, we took a restroom and refreshment break at an Expressway rest stop and found these very lifelike lifesize horses.

Our Rennaisance Sapporo room was one of the bigger rooms we had so far, and it was very comfortable. Lots of space for our two luggage bags.

Took the circle shuttle to Ramen Street. Another good reason to stay at this hotel - it's one of the shuttle's stops. Warning : the shuttle leaves on the dot according to the schedule. Walked about quite a bit as Ramen Street was very poorly indicated in the tourist brochure maps. Actually, it was well and clearly drawn in and printed etc except that it was not accurately sited in the very poorly scaled map. Got the Ramen Street after about thirty minutes. Passed a building (temple?) whose entrance was guarded by statues with abs plus fantastic abs.

Another thing - there are TWO ie 2 Ramen Streets, one old and one new. Both are shown in those maps. We found this one which we think was the OLD Ramen Street. We think the New one is in a building like a shopping centre.

Recce'd the whole street and end up in the first shoplet - no queue, not overly crowded, looked clean and bright, staff looked happy and not overstressed!

Our orders arrived.

This time, remembered to take a photograph of the food before we shovelled them down.
