It was now 1.30pm; we had climbed since 11.00am and we were now midway (2 and a half hours) through our Allotted Time To Ascend & Descend. We had to descend now so that we can catch the last bus (at 4pm) back to Shinjuku.
We would most likely make it down to the bus in less time than we got up. But by how much less time? Could we make it up to the 7th Station in say, the next 30 or 40 minutes? and have enough time for the descent in time to catch the last bus?
Looking up, we saw the next nearest hut at least 6 or 7 zig-zags above us. We would not be able to do them in 40 minutes! we would probably need twice that time! Click on the photo to enlarge it to see path zig-zagging up.
