Up the Hill

One MUST take the Penang Hill funiculer. Cost less than 10 ringgit for the two-stage ride ie you have to switch trains halfway.

I simply HAD to take that photo of the damaged ceiling in the waiting hall, as the newspapers were full of reports of collapsed ceilings in Parliament House, hospitals and other government buildings all over the country, giving Works Minister Sambanthan headaches and embarrassment. I guess he was healed with some of that RM$10 million he pulled out of the air as the estimated cost of repairing all those ceilings.

There was this carriage sitting pretty on the hilltop; it was not set up for best effect, so I had to shoot it the way it should be, as shown in the photo (right).

There were some nice-looking stalls at the summit selling snacks, refreshments and souveniers. And there was also a tired-looking food centre which had half its number of stalls closed.

The last photo is of the main entrance; click to enlarge and you can see the 'cut' in the trees along which the cable car tracks run.
