Suzhou - Wang Shi park

Went along an old road (which today seems more like an alley) and passed some very picturesque and familiar houses like that above; familiar in that they were exactly what we had in Singapore some 50 years ago, complete with dirt front yards.

There were lots of this tree, pruned for the winter, leaving "dragon claws" branches.

This was in fact the residence of a wealthy and influential person way back then. It was a very excellent showcase of the famous Suzhou gardens which reflected what the surrounding country looked like. Besides the many rooms and courtyards typical of such palatial residences.

It seemed that one of the courtyard gardens in this park was replicated at the Smithsonian Institute in the US on instruction of Beijing when the Americans requested for a Chinese garden landscape there.
