How shall I describe this place? It is very beautiful, but at the same time it gives you sad and lonely feelings, makes you feel very small and fragile. This is the beach on MacQuarrie Head (end of yellow line in map), northen part, guarding Hell's Gate which is a very narrow opening into MacQuarrie Bay. Like location of Gibralter.
The lighthouse is on the opposite ie southern coast. Like north Africa.
We walked towards Hell's Gate. There were 4WD tyre tracks and some footprints which led us to a tourist couple from Europe, and two locals shore fishing.
The long approach road was very rugged and gravelly and we wanted to turn back many times. I'm glad we kept at it. Worth the drive and trek.
