Kiyomizu Temple

This has got to be the hightlight of our trip to Japan. A magnificent building overhanging a hillside with a forest of trees below, that you can enter, and be photographed with you in it, without need of a helicopter. A travel poster of Japan with yourself in it. Got to use the zoom-in function of course.

There's wifey there in red top and blue pants.

If my memory serves me right, I believe the guide said that this was an illustration of Buddhism and Shintoism in Japan ie the temple and shrine beside each other. Ah, a point to note if you're thinking of going there: they haven't got to the stage of providing ramps for wheelchairs at most of these old tourist spots, yet.

The first shot directly above was taken from where Penny was in the first-most photo in this blog. I shot this after that one, just before we made our way back retracing steps, quickly.

No way were we oldies going to walk all the way to that pagoda far in the distance in that shot over the railings. You have to click on the photo to get a larger image size and perhaps zoom-in too!

The younger tourists went down to check out the spring water spouts. Something significant about them which I'll come back and update here.

"Below you will see people reaching out to Otowa-no-taki (Sound of Feathers Waterfall) with long wooden poles to fill cups with the "Clear Water" from the falls. On busy Sunday afternoons, there will be a long queue. At times you will also happen across people who stand beneath the falls praying to Fudo Myoo (God King of Fire who punishes evil-doers). The water is also said to have the power to prevent illness, so grab a cup and have a nice long drink. " excerpt from Kiyomizu (clear water) Temple.

This was the narrow road we came up to see this Kiyomizu Temple. And to where most of us quickly retraced our steps to, before time's up and we had to board the coach to go to the next on the itinerary. The place was chockful of souvenier shops, Japanese tea cafes, dried food gift shops and, of course, plastic umbrellas as it was drizzle drizzle for as many days in our tour. There'll be a post later on about buying umbrellas.
