Kami Sannomachi in Takayama

We tried some balls on a stick which tasted very very bland as they were made of rice flour. The sticky sauce didn't improve the taste enough for our palate. Min you, they sell like hotcakes in Japan.

The last shot above was something to be expected, with snoopy tourists sticking their noses into every doorway.

The last shot above was of a garage for one of those old floats that are now displayed in the museum in an earlier post. Hence the tall clearance height.

The drains were provided with sluice planks to be fitted into place to dam up water when needed. Those planks were end-cased in aluminium. There's another of those bicycles that always happen to be the bottom of the photo that I need to shoot! Do you see the bent pole of the street sign? and the off-centre attachment of the sign onto the pole? That's necessary so as not to obstruct wide-bodied vehicles. Now that's attention to detail!

This is a morning market in a carpark where locals bring fresh farm produce for sale to tourists. I like the way bamboo is used for the tree guard.

After getting help on directions from a local bookshopkeeper we asked him where we could get good ramen like where he'd go for his ramen, and were directed to a little backstreet shop called "Masango" . There we had, true to his recommendation, one of the best ramen that we've tasted during our trip. It was also more fun than in a hotel or station restaurant. Mind you, the shop's posted prices were not much cheaper than in a city restaurant. But, you can't beat the taste of that soup.

just to say I think your site is great
I am just starting a blog myself, all about working from home, but I am struggling a bit, I could never load photos so expertly as you are doing. I would love to visit Japan one day, it looks a wonderful place/
